To be fair, Gareth Southgate's men are not playing all that badly, they just don't seem to be able to bring it all together for 90 minutes at a time and tend to let in sloppy goals. The Chelsea game, coming on the back of a confidence boosting FA Cup win, might just be the motivation they need to kick start their season. Chelsea, on the other hand, have not really addressed the defensive problems so clearly highlighted against Manchester United and their results since then have merely papered over the cracks. If it all comes together it would not be a shock to see Middlesborough run out as winners, so it's certainly one to watch. Jaxx Sports are offering 9-2 for a draw, which is tempting! Comment added 29/01/09 Final Score: 2-0 This was always going to be a long shot for Boro and in the end Chelsea proved to be too strong for Middlesborough despite being well below par on the night. Gareth Southgate's men defended well until mid way through the second half, without offering much up front, but once the Blues got their first goal there was no way back. |
